The Consumer Electronics Show 2016

At CES this year I was specifically researching the emerging areas of Personal Mobility - APPcessories, Wearable Technology, Smart (AR) Glasses, mHealth/Fitness, Augmented Reality, Personal Cloud, 3D printing and the consumer mobility end of Infotainment and Transmedia propositions.

So my mission was simple...

...to find innovative stuff and update myself on the art of the possible in these sectors and possibly discover some new emerging market sectors of interest. I also attended two Press only evening events, Showstoppers and Pepcom (Digital Experiences) on the 6th and 7th. There are always a lot of Innovative companies showing at these!

This is clearly the year of innovation and consumer market traction in most of the areas I am researching, and this could be the time for investors to start taking these categories serious.

Look out world, here comes consumer generated 3D360º content! An amazing innovation in software and hardware from HumanEyes Technologies that will enable ordinary consumers as well as professional photographers and movie makers to create VR pictures or videos using the hand-held point-and-shoot VUZE camera. Stylish "flying saucer" design and small highly portable and lightweight camera on a versatile ‘selfie stick” or tripod. Removable SD card can capture up to one hour of video allowing people to capture every part of the world around them in breathtaking detail. VUZE 3D360º camera is controlled by a dedicated iOS and Android app. Inside are 8 Full HD cameras that simultaneously capture images, videos and sound to facilitate full stereophonic and 3D360º spherical content. Each camera uses ultra-wide and vertical angle lenses to capture 1200 horizontal and 1800 vertical images and together generate 4K VR content. VUZE can capture both 2D and 3D360º spherical images and videos and can effortlessly switch between the two.  And they won the "Last Gadget Standing" competition as well, so I am not alone in counting this as a breakthrough that Caught My Eye!
The Brainco “mind control” headband from Looxid Labs. Effectively hacks into brain signals with a range of applications — from helping to improve attention spans, to detecting disease, controlling smart home appliances or even a prosthetic device. According to Zenchuan Lei, the device “translates your brainwaves into electronic signals” BrainCo. demonstrated how a person could use the headband to manipulate a prosthetic hand using brainwaves or simply turn the lights on or off just by focusing on that.” Harvard and MIT scientists employ “neuro feedback,” as a means of allowing people to control their brain waves for various purposes. Brainco is developing the hardware and software required and hopes to have it available later this year for less than $150.
Another innovation that is paving the way to to 360º virtual reality is GIROPTIC’s 360cam. It produces content that can be played back on any screen and device without any processing. It instantly captures your greatest moments from all angles using three cameras (185º lenses) it records full spherical photos and videos as a .jpg still or .mp4 file video.  The rugged rubberised unit can be mounted on a selfie mono/tripod or with an accessory, screwed into a light socket to be powered and capture all that is happening 24/7. Carry it to take with you anywhere.

Just a few very cleverly designed bits of plastic, but turns an iPhone into a full function camera rig. You don't even need a camera bag for this one, just a pocket or two. olloclip Studio is the combination of an all-new, more protective case design that incorporates an integrated rail mounting solution and a series of mobile photography accessories. Great for the explorer/adventurer in you that wants to capture the scene and sounds wherever you go but also potentially, all one needs to become a full fledged blogger or news reporter. Great for interviews with a mike and wide angle lens on board your iphone. Case and accessories work together the moment you pick them up so you can focus on capturing the opportunity in front of you and not on building a rig. olloclip Studio is comprised of the new protective Studio Case to withstand most accidental drops. It also includes an innovative mounting system for standard accessories - mono/tripods, lighting/flash, microphones, plus a portfolio of olloclip macro, wide angle, fisheye and telephoto lenses.    Nice one olloclip. You Caught My Eye again this year!
AromaCare claims this device to be the world’s first connected essential oils diffuser. It allows you to program personalized aromatherapy sessions. Uses organic essential oil blends to improve health and wellbeing in six areas. nice move, but seems a bit restrictive to have to replace the oil reservoir for each type of treatment. Hopefully soon programmable so you could move smoothly from sleep to waking up therepy. Could wearable scent dispensing which reacts to the sensing of conditions be far off? Watch this space!
